Hello Undergraduates,
Happy Monday! (And if you're already looking forward to the weekend,
remember this weekend is Family Weekend, so consider spending time with or
giving a call to people that you love!)
While all of our committees recruit year round, I'd like to highlight a few
now: Alumni Affairs and Involvement are new committees, and Technology
Systems Group is a committee that's always looking for new ideas on how to
improve MIT's tech and is open to new projects. Because they're growing
committees, you would be able to shape how they function and what they work
on. The respective chairs, Keertan Kini (krkini16 at mit.edu), and Adam
Theriault-Shay (ua-involvement-chairs at mit.edu), and Ariel Jacobs (
ua-tsg-chairs at mit.edu), are incredibly excited! Feel free to email them
asking any questions you may have, and apply for any UA committee here

*Interesting piece of history of the week *from our UA History Chair, Allan
Sadun (ua-history at mit.edu; add yourself to the
ua-history-interest at mit.edu mailing
list here <https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/ua-history-interest> if
you'd like to receive more):
*"In May 2012, Reif was announced to be MIT's next president. The UA and
the GSC formed an eight-person committee, the "Presidential Transition
Advisory Cabinet", for advising Reif and helping him transition into the
role of president. In their words, "PTAC would focus on identifying salient
present and future campus issues and proposing constructive paths forward".*
*Well, the only way MIT identifies or proposes anything properly is by
spending a year carefully writing a quality report, and PTAC was no
different. You can read what they concluded (or the 9-page executive
summary) at http://tech.mit.edu/V133/N32/ptac/PTAC-Public-Report-2013.pdf
<http://tech.mit.edu/V133/N32/ptac/PTAC-Public-Report-2013.pdf>. Divided
into "Educational Experience", "Community", and "Residential Campus"
sections, they have insightful suggestions on topics ranging through
advising, student-administrator communication, "small families", mental
health, and more. PTAC went on to become PAC, the Presidential Advisory
Cabinet, which exists to this day."*
