For those Undergrads on campus for the summer:

In the height of the severe thunderstorm that affected the Boston area
tonight, a dump truck servicing the construction on Vassar St. struck
and downed utility wires west of Simmons Hall. The street is currently
closed and both the power and telephone lines to the MIT Police Station
are down. This means that dialing 253-1212 or 100 on a campus phone will
not connect you with the CP's. Until the issue is repaired, if you have
an emergency, please dial 911 and the dispatcher will transfer you to
the Cambridge Police or Fire Dept.
