Dear Undergrads of MIT,

Many of you may be aware of the changes that are coming next fall, but here
is an official update from the Campus Dining Advisory Board.

Alpine Bagels in the 1st floor Student Center will be replaced by Dunkin'
Donuts (Cambridge Grill will be staying). Contrary to popular belief,
Dunkin' Donuts does not only serve unhealthy fast food. They also have
bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and blended fruit smoothies. Healthy food has
been a big sell in the last several years and a franchise as large as Dunkin
Donuts has not ignored that fact. The construction will start after
commencement, so Alpine will be not be available during the summer.

In addition to the Shinkansen Japanese Teriyaki, Cafe Spice Indian Cuisine
and Sepal Middle Eastern Cuisine, Subway will open in Lobdell next fall.
There has been overwhelming support for a Subway on campus based on
undergraduate surveys conducted by the UA Dining and Student Life
Committees. It will serve for lunch, dinner, and late night (how late
depends on the business it gets at night, to be experimented next fall).
The Boston Subway location could also be added to TechCASH for MIT students
living across the river.

A Thai food and noodle bowl vendor will be the second addition to Lobdell,
vendor still to be selected. This will provide another low-cost healthy
option to the food court.

An Au Bon Pain kiosk will possibly be added to the Z-Center.

Pacific St. Cafe has opened an operation at Sidney-Pacific. They offer
sandwiches, soups, hot entrees, and pizza for lunch and dinner.

As a final note, the Dining Board has thoroughly discussed and considered
the implications of the proposed changes. Yes, LaVerde's does offer subs
but who says competition is a bad thing? Although some plans have been
solidified, it does not mean that they are set in stone. Lobdell is a
work-in-progress and will continue to change based on student demand.

Thank you for reading, and please send your intelligible feedback.

Sincerely,

Sisi Zhu
