Hey all,

This year's book is currently being wrapped up by the Editors... which
means we are nearing a yearly milestone at Technique — the changing of
the guard!

Technique's 2009 Managing Board Elections are taking place NEXT Saturday
3/8. We need motivated people to lead Technique for the next year and
to publish /Technique 2009/!!

A list of all the positions are at the bottom of this email, including
brief descriptions. Tomorrow, the managing board is having a budget
meeting and pre-elections meeting at 1pm (thats why the general invite
is at 2pm!), and we might add a position or two to that list.

You are welcome to email me (dtemp at mit.edu), the top leading members
(technique at mit.edu), or any other managing board member and ask them any
questions you may have! Ask us what a particular position is like, how
much of a time commitment it takes, etc. For a list of all the managing
board members, scroll to the bottom of:
http://web.mit.edu/technique/www/info.html

I'd also ask all current Managing Board members to email anyone that
they've seen around the office and think would make a good manboard
member... even if its a current manboard member that you'd like to see
run again! This organization is all about PEOPLE, and a personal note
is worth a lot.

How it works:
1) You show up at the meeting next Saturday
2) You get nominated for a position, or nominate yourself
3) You talk for a minute about why you like the position
4) You answer a couple of our questions
5) You leave the room for a couple minutes, and we talk about you in
private :) and vote
6) You come back in the room and learn your fate
7) Either way, you come out to dinner with us after the meeting :)

So, get thinking!

Editor-In-Chiefly,
David Templeton

---------

ALL POSITIONS
Must attend random meetings, roughly monthly, when scheduled by the EIC
and/or Managing Editor. Must be a Technique Evangelist and encourage
people to join and buy books. Must assist other managing board members
in their tasks when they ask for help. Must come to Saturday meetings
whenever possible to engage in eating and tomfoolery. Must be a
generally pleasant person :)

Editor-In-Chief
Responsible for everything. Yep, thats about it. Most importantly,
they are the face of the organization, and are in charge of doing what
they can to allow the organization to exist another 123 years. Selfish
people not apply, you are here for Grogo's work. The Pope of Technique,
without the big cool hat. Must realize that PEOPLE (primarily) and
MONEY (secondarily) are the most important things to the organization.
Must think long term. Must have people skills and leadership skills.
Email me for an elaboration.

Managing Editor
Second in command. Assists the EIC in holding editors on task. Assists
the EIC with oddball stuff that doesn't fall within others' domains.
Does lots of various paperwork. The Managing Editor is usually
Technique's treasurer, so work with money (more paperwork). Does some
politicking with the ASA. Must have people skills and leadership
skills. Traditional stepping stone to being EIC, not always :)

Design Editor
Responsible for the look and feel of the book... a big deal.
Responsible for doing a lot of layout work. Without the design ed, its
"just a book of photos". Creative types apply. Must know or be willing
to learn Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

Photography Editor
Technique's chief photography evangelists. Responsible for photography
gear, teaching staph how to use it, encouraging photographers to shoot,
managing photo-related purchases, sorting through a half-terabyte of
photos in January, and photoshopping them for the book. Most
importantly, you have to be motivated and willing to look past this
short list, and try to further Technique as a photography powerhouse on
campus. Must know or be willing to learn Adobe Photoshop, among many
other things.

Living Groups Editor
Responsible for the Living Groups section and everything that goes into
it. A lot of organizational work. Emailing living group people,
scheduling LG photos, scheduling photogs to shoot them, collecting money
from LGs, more emails to LG representatives... must have serious people
skills :) Has a voice on the design of the LG section

Seniors Editor
Responsible for the Seniors section and everything that goes into it. A
lot of organizational work. Emailing the senior class, scheduling stuff
with our portrait studio, scheduling staph to man the office, dealing
with lots of random emails from seniors, getting people that man the
office paid... must have serious people skills :) Has a voice on the
design of the LG section.

Activities Editor
Responsible for the Activities Section. Takes photos of activities and
encourages others to. Has a voice on the design of the activities section.

Sports Editor
Responsible for the Sports Section. Takes photos of sports and
encourages others to. Has a voice on the design of the activities section.

Journal Editor
Responsible for the Journal Section. Records a list of newsworthy
events that happen in relation to MIT and the world. Has a voice on the
design of the activities section.

Literary Editor
Responsible for assembling witty/sarcastic/funny/etc textual elements
for the book. Will consult with the Design Editor in this regard. Has
a voice on the design of the Hell section, or any other section that
text is present.

Director of Publicity
More important than you may think. Responsible for getting Living
Groups to sign up for the LG section, seniors coming in for senior
portraits, RECRUITMENT of new staph, and SELLING books. Technique would
die without people or money, and they are responsible for both. (I just
pooped myself thinking about this.) Must make posters, hang them up,
email people, get ads on various MIT venues, etc.

Coke Pusher
They fill the coke machine with soda :) More recently, since the coke
machine is under repair and we purchased a water cooler, they keep the
water flowin! Pays the bills to CocaCola or Poland Spring, buys cups.

Darkroom Manager
Keeps the darkroom in working order. Keeps the place tidy, keeps the
place stocked with consumables, and takes care of managing any repairs.
  Enjoys the smell of fixer.

Orders Tsar
Responsible for taking orders from various media (online credit card or
techcash, mail, in person), inputs orders into the orders database,
coordinates with the Managing Editor on money issues, coordinates with
the Managing Editor during book distribution in May and book mailings in
June.

Contributing Editor
Interested in taking a greater role at Technique, but don't have the
time/interest/skillz for any of the jobs above? Contributing Editors
assist the other Managing Board members with tasks, and should be
pro-active in doing random jobs that need to be done. They are the
favorite people of hard-working EICs and Managing Editors. I became
Facebook-married with TNQ's 2007 contrib editor.
