Thank you for this thoughtful reply, Brick.  It's interesting to hear
that men can face the same problems.  Do you think men's difficulties
are restricted to places that ask by cabeceo?  In New York the men
simply walk up and ask, and I didn't see anyone getting turned down.
Of course this may be because men are circumspect in whom they walk up
to, protecting themselves from rejection.
