It only barely survived rock'n'roll, though (the bal musette also
survived two world wars but it's truly dead for all practical
purposes).

There's a revival, and that is partly because there is indeed
some money to be made (at least some of the people who dance can
actually make a living out of it), and because it's seen by the
world as part of the heritage of Argentina. And much of the money
is not Argentine.
