I didn’t read the post that said there could be 4,5 or even 6 songs in a
tanda in BA. In any case that’s not true.
There are never more than 4 tangos in a tanda and in most cases only 3
milongs in a tanda. I’ve danced at dozens of different milongas in BA and this
has always been the standard.

There is a code in BA for asking women to dance that ties into the 4 tango
or vals tanda.
Give her a cabeceo on the first song and if you enjoy the dance you have 3
more to look forward to.
If you don’t like dancing with her it’s proper etiquette to dance at
least 2 songs before saying “Gracias”
You can give her a cabeceo on the 3rd song and have 2 dances with her but
it is considered rude to give her a cabeceo on the 4th song because if you
do this and find you enjoy dancing with each other you only have one song
and it’s “Gracias,” see ya later.

As you can see in BA there’s a lot more going on than meets the eye.

4, 5 or even 6 tangos per tanda in Ba..IMO this is a dance
disaster...one of these tandas can last as long as 15 minutes..too long
to take a chance on dancing with an "unknown entitiy" whether it be
male or female...this is a tango tanda lifetime, and unless you are
very young or have high pain thresholds, this can be a physical dance
nightmare. >>>

That is partly why there is no set pattern, just a general form that is
flexible. Some DJs will play a tanda of three tangos, a cortina, then three
more before changing to a set of milongas or vals. That way you have the
opportunity to change partners even though there are still more tangos.
