Rodolfo Biagi has some great waltzes, "Loca de Amor" as well as Ricardo 
Tanturi, "Mi Romance" or "Recuerdo" and there are countless others but but you 
can't beat one of the most beautiful waltzes anywhere in the world, which happens 
to be a tango waltz, Pugliese's version of "Desde el Alma" which was chosen by 
the people of Buenos Aires at the turn of the century 2000 as the most 
beautiful waltz of the 20th century. Can't get more standard and Argentine than 
that!   

Biagi also has a regular tango called "Marcha Nupcial" (which is "Wedding 
March" translated) and uses the familiar Mendelssohn melody.
