[Tango-L] DJ - image matching music

This is possible with iTunes.

Under iTunes there is a third party plug-in called Cover Version which
will display cover art on the iTunes window while the track is playing.
So you can set up a playlist, start the playlist, turn on the
Visualizer, set it to fill the screen. If you have a projector linkup
you could send this image to a projector and project it large at the
venue onto a light wall or onto a conventional screen.

iTunes allows you to cut and paste cover art or other jpg images into
the cover art field of the track library. (Some tracks may be locked
into the actual cover art if you bought them from iTunes (I think that's
a bug) but most will be editable and you can put in whatever art you
want). I frequently use historical images of artists (or any artistic
dance image I like) rather than the album cover.

My experience is on Mac only--not sure with Windows versions of iTunes.

Of course, just because software allows this to be done (or because you
can do it manually) does not mean you do not need a license to project
or display certain artwork at a public venue synched up to music. In the
US, this type of use requires a music synch license. Most commercial
venues with music (bars, theaters, etc.) will have a typical ASCAP
license for their venue for recorded or live music, but many will not
have a synch license for recorded or live music synched with images. To
stay legal, as a DJ you have to check with how the venue is licensed and
make sure that use is covered.
