[Tango-L] Googling Tango-L

Hello List Subscribers,

After more than 10 years of following the threads on this list, I have noticed, as I'm certain others have as well, that many of the postings are redundant.? The redundancies include not just thread topics but even postings within those threads.? I'm not implying that such posting are plagiarisms.? Rather I feel that most of us are unaware of what others have posted before.

I suggest that before opening a new thread or even responding to an on-going thread, the author might google Tango-L for previous related
postings.? For example before writing this current posting, I went to http://google.com and entered 'tango-l' and 'google' as keywords.? I got
some hits but none on this topic.? If I had gotten a hit on my topic, I would have attributed the original idea to that author.

I suspect that the libertarians among you may view this suggestion as an infringement of 1st Amendment rights.? My response would be that
this practice is just good scholarship.? In academia where 1st Amendment rights are jealously guarded, doing this kind of "research" is
required.

I believe Tango-L is a wonderful forum for sharing knowledge and experiences as well as a place for venting frustrations.? After all, we are
discussing perhaps the most complex and intricate dance ever devised.? However, much of that knowledge and experience is already available
in Tango-L archives if we just look for it.
