Many in this forum like to disparage the strict rules that many others favor in the milongas. But there's more to the strict rules than alluded to:
An ideally well danced Tango is really a man's dance: El Varon controls and leads it (or, so many men would like to believe ;->). For three minutes El Varon gets to play the role of a Real Man: sexy, powerful, protective, the woman in his arms responds to his charms, she is beautiful, his testosterone hits a high.
Woe then to whomever bumps into him or kicks his woman during these moments.
Which explains the animosity encountered at milongas, and explains also the allegory of Tango knife fights.
The strict rules help make milongas a more sedate place.
