A group of musicians in Buenos Aires wanted to get together for the love of
music and began weekly rehearsals in 1980. Enrique Seone plays bandoneon
and is a professional music arranger. He and Alberto Demaria decided to
recreate the arrangements of Carlos Di Sarli. That was no easy task since
Di Sarli never used sheet music or allowed anyone to film him during
performances. Enrique had to transcribe each individual musician's part by
listening to recordings. Each arrangement took at least ten hours to write
out. Guillermo Durante, pianist of Gente de Tango, is the only musician in
the world able to duplicate the style of Di Sarli. These musicians
pay tribute to "the Lord of the Tango," the maestro from Bahia Blanca.

Gente de Tango had their first public performance on November 1, 1981,
during a broadcast on Channel 11 in Buenos Aires. Since then,
they have performed in a variety of venues and have earned a reputation for
excellence from milongueros and tangueros.

Gente de Tango has received public recognition from the city of General San
Martin and has won the Carlos Gardel award on three occasions from the
Argentina Cultural Association of Tango.

The musicians represent various generations from Ramon Coronel (violin - 91
years), Juan Luis Gandolfo (violin - 89 years), ex-violinists with Horacio
Salgan and Juan Cambareri respectively, to Nicolas Aghazarian, the youngest
of all at 25, who plays three days a week in the subway station at
Chacarita. In 2003, they recorded a compact disc entitled, "Al Estilo Di
Sarli."
