Greetings Tang Hall Residents:
With the summer winding down, new residents are moving in and existing residents are returning to a new way of life in Tang and at MIT. I am receiving questions and feel my answers should be shared.
Q: Since I am moving out in a few weeks, do I have to take the test twice a week per MIT's new requirement?
A: It is my understanding that all residents living in MIT residence halls are now required to take tests twice per week
Q: If someone has the virus in Tang, will the entire dorm have to quarantine like the undergraduate dorms?
A: We are looking at reserving spaces for asymptomatic residents to quarantine, so this would not be mandatory. We still need to honor the campus wide social distancing rules (wear masks in public/shared spaces like laundry room, elevators, etc...) It will require everyone being mindful of how we move in Tang and around on campus, and holding each other accountable.
Also, you should know that because there are too many residents violating the campus social distancing rules (particularly not wearing masks), names are being collected across campus for administrative action. You'll likely get a warning first but repeat violators can be ask to leave campus housing, so please help protect the community/our spaces by honoring these MIT's Covid-19 housing policies<https://studentlife.mit.edu/covid19gradpolicies>. Also know that MIT policies supersedes the Federal and local government's policies, so please reference the site for confirmation. Please keep in mind that because each dorm community live in different structures so policies may vary and can be found on that dorms website. We are in the process of reviewing ours so until updates are posted to Tang's site visit MIT graduate student policies<https://studentlife.mit.edu/covid19gradpolicies>.
Last point, because Tang Hall have different ventilation challenges, our common spaces (lounges, gym, etc...) will remain close until we receive approval, from Residential Life, to open them. Tang Hall leadership is currently reviewing ways to minimize risk as we gradually open common spaces, so please be patient.
Best,
Dawn
