Dear Tang residents,
My name is Ivan - I'm your fellow graduate student and recycling and
gardening chair at Tang. I noticed that from time to time, there are things
like this dropped into compost bin (the green bin to the left of the back
entrance of the dorm):
Please note that while this is food waste, it is not allowed in the compost
bin. Why? Because this bag contains a lot of plastic (including the bag
itself), and no plastic (or metal, wood, etc.) is accepted in the compost
bin. Therefore, somebody (usually myself) has to extract them from the bin,
or else the entire bin has to go to trash instead of compost.
Then, what should you do?
-> If you would like to compost (which we would love!!), please use the
*green* *composting bags* next to the bin. You can also email me to request
a free compost bin. Please do not include plastic wrap, plastic/metal
boxes, and other food packaging in the compost.
-> If you're not disposing of compost, please dispose of trash through the
garbage chute on your floor, and do not put it into the composting bin. (If
it's recyclable, put it in the white bins to the right of the back
entrance.)
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Thank you!
Ivan
