Greetings Tang Residents:
It is so great to see that the gym is being used by more residents. We worked hard to insure that it has modern
equipment to make up for the ventilation and heat which is still on the “to be repaired” list. In the meantime, I must
make sure everyone is aware of some key rules that are routinely not being followed and could negatively impact
the safety and experience of all users.
Do not unlocked the gym doors. This is a matter of security. Occasionally strangers enter the building searching
high and low for unlocked doors. Although not often, it happens enough that gym doors must stay locked at all times.
All users must use their MIT ID card to enter the gym for security reasons.
Return dumbbells and barbell weights to their racks on the smith machine, bench press and back of leg press
after use. No one should have to search for weights needed or unload weights to use a machine. We do not have
gym maintenance people so we have to maintain it for ourselves and the best way to do this is to make sure the
equipment you use is left ready for the next user.
Do NOT move equipment, particularly the treadmills. Not sure why that is happening but this is ruining our new tiles
on the floor. It is making them stick up and detach from one another which can be a heath hazard since someone can
fall because of it. If you must move the smaller benches, please return them to original spot to keep gym organized.
Please keep in mind, we do not have much common space for residents so it is on all of us to maintain it particularly
as its users increase. The goal is to leave a space better than you found it, particularly in an older building, so they
remain safe and secure, well maintained and to reduce the time they have to be offline for repairs. If there are any
issues or concerns for example: moving large equipment or needing fans to be adjusted, please inform the following:
