[Tang-Residents] THRA 2014-15 Elections: Apply by Mar. 19

March is the time when the Tang Hall Residents' Association (THRA), the student house government, renews its board membership, and makes the residents aware of positions open for election next year. This time, we are happy to announce that there are a total of 5 positions open on the THRA: we need two sports chairs, two social chairs, and one publicity chair. An explanation of the responsibilities that go with each position can be found at the bottom of this email.

Note that the two 50-word “Idea Pitch” and “Relevant Experience” sections will be used during the voting process, for your candidature.
You will be notified of further election procedures once the nomination deadline passes.

2. You also get to shape Tang's social scene - introduce the kind of socials that you would like to have, and we will support you!
3. On a more serious note, it is important to have responsible people leading a large residence like ours. The better our community spirit, the more we can enjoy our time at MIT.
What: 5 THRA open positions for 2014-15: 2 sports chairs, 2 social chairs, and 1 publicity chair
When: Nominations open right now, and close on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 11:59 pm EDT.
How: Go to http://tang.mit.edu/tang-hall-residents-association/thra-application-form/ with the password: tang_apply_2014 and fill out the form. If you are unsure of dates such as graduation, fill out approximate values.

Officer Roles and Responsibilities for open positions:
Social Chair:
1. The Social Chairs shall organize and oversee a series of social events. There shall be at least one social event every two weeks during spring and fall semesters.
2. At least one Social Chair shall be present at each social.
3. The Social Chairs shall divide the coordination of welcome and ongoing social events among the association members and the residents in a fair and balanced way. However, it is ultimately the Social Chairs’ responsibility to make sure each event happens.
4. The Social Chairs shall work with the Treasurer to prepare funding proposals.
5. The Social Chairs solicit event reports after each event and post them on the association web page.
6. The Social Chairs shall organize a social cabinet clean-up at least once every semester. The members of the association are required to attend to at least one such event every year.
Sports Chair:
1. The Sports Chairs shall oversee the organization of Tang Hall intramural sports teams.
2. The Sports Chairs shall prepare and publicize sign up sheets for different teams.
3. The Sports Chairs shall organize at least one sign up event in the beginning of each fall semester.
4. The Sports Chairs shall recruit and select captains for each sport.
5. The Sports Chairs shall maintain and update the sports board located at Tang lobby.
Publicity Chair:
1. The Publicity Chair is responsible for creating eye-catching color posters for each social event.
2. The Publicity Chair is responsible for keeping the Tang Facebook page updated with upcoming events and photographs from completed events.
3. The Publicity Chair shall be responsible of the bulletin board located at Tang lobby. The content of the bulletin board shall be updated at least once each month.
4. The Publicity Chair shall be responsible of any large scale design related issues, such as big poster preparation and printing, designing t-shirts, cups, etc. for the association.
5. The Publicity Chair shall reach out to other dorms for advertising GSC-funded events.
6. The Publicity Chair shall also forward other MIT event emails to ‘tang-social’ mailing list.
