Subject: [Parkinfo] Traffic impact on campus June 12 to June 15

Dear Colleagues,

Please be aware that construction activities for the new childcare facility on Vassar Street may impact traffic on Albany, Vassar, and Mass Ave from Wednesday, June 12 through Saturday, June 15. Activities around the site will be from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. However, there may be some activities as early as 5:00 AM on Wednesday in an effort to move materials before heavy traffic begins on Mass Ave.

Vehicular traffic will remain in both directions on Vassar Street and Albany Streets. However, there may be some delays during the morning and evening commutes. Those traveling in the area are advised to use alternate routes:
To Stata and Albany Garages
Those going to the Stata Center Garage or Albany Garage from the west: travel on Memorial Drive rather than Vassar Street. Take Mem Drive, left on Wadsworth near E51, left on Amherst, right on Ames, left on Main Street http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=E51 .
To West Garage
Those traveling to the West Garage and seek to avoid the construction, can take Memorial Drive to the turnabout and go right on Mass Ave and then left on Vassar.

Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be maintained in both directions, also, with police patrol officers directing traffic at the crosswalks. The police details will also hold traffic in one direction to allow the other lane of traffic to pass.

A total of 21 modules (14' X 49' ) will be brought to Cambridge from Pennsylvania. The modules will be stored in a lot on Albany Street between Simmons Hall and Ashdown House. The deliveries and movement of the modules may generate noise especially in the early morning hours. The modules will be moved from Albany Street down Mass Ave to Vassar Street west.

A crane will be set up on Vassar Street to move the modules from the trucks on to the site. The crane will be moved off Vassar Street at 7:00 PM with traffic returning to normal from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Additional information and timelines about the project are available on the Construction Updates website: http://web.mit.edu/facilities/construction/updates.shtml#219vassar

Regards,
Ruth
