Hello

The 2010 Census will be delivered tomorrow to all residents apartments. The will either slide it under your door or knock and unlock the door and drop it off just inside your apartment if nobody answers. They will not enter but will make sure the door is then locked. I ask that you fill out the form as soon as possible and return it back to the Tang desk or slide it under my office door.

Thank you
Michael

Dear Students,

*National Census day is April 1, 2010.*

If you live on campus or in a MIT Fraternity, Sorority or Independent Living Group, you should receive a census form this week at your place of residence. If you live off campus, you have probably already received a household form in the mail.

The census form is very short and easy to answer. The U.S. Federal Census is a count of everyone residing in the United States: in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. This includes people of all ages, races, and ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens. So even if you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, but are living in the United States this April, you will be counted in the location where you are currently residing.

Filling out your census form is critical. The confidential information that is collected and aggregated is used for a wide range of purposes, from the allocation of funding for infrastructure improvements, to research and transportation planning, among many other vital functions.

MIT has developed a website <http://web.mit.edu/census/> that contains some frequently asked questions that are particularly relevant to our community and links to other Federal Census sites.

Please fill out and return your census form as soon as it arrives. If you have any questions, you may direct them to census2010 at mit.edu.
