TO ALL RESIDENTS
UNLIKE THE PAST, FIRE DRILL WERE ONCE POSTED.
NEW POLICY IS LISTED BELOW!
>>The City of Cambridge has changed the requirements for emergency drills
>>for the entire city. Effective immediately, all buildings on campus
>>will be required to have an unannounced drill, coordinated and
>>facilitated by the Cambridge Fire Department twice per year. They
>>will schedule the drills at random times of the day or night at their
>>discretion. The fire codes for the State of Massachusetts gives full
>>authority to local fire departments to make these changes in procedure.
>>The Fire Department will be present at all drills and will be monitoring
>>the evacuation procedure in each building. The Fire Department will
>>also randomly test residents during the evacuation by blocking a main
>>egress to assess how the building occupants respond. This test is to
>>show what would happen if a fire blocked an egress route.
>>Massachusetts state law requires all residents to leave a building
>>whenever the alarm sounds. The fire department will be closely
>>monitoring the evacuations to ensure everyone responds
>>accordingly. Thank you all for your continued attention to the MIT
>>safety procedures.
