>> Founded in 1956 as the nation's flagship museum for craft, the Museum of Arts and Design remains a central venue for the celebration of skilled making and its role in modern life. In this lecture, Glenn Adamson will share his thoughts about transitioning from the role of a critic and researcher to that of being the director of this important institution. In addition to providing insights into the way that a contemporary museum operates and the strategies that he has undertaken in his first year of leadership, he will also reflect on the ways that writerly skills remain important in his work.

>> Glenn Adamson is the Nanette L Laitman Director of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City. He was, until Autumn 2013, Head of Research at the V&A, where he was active as a curator, historian and theorist. His publications include Thinking Through Craft (2007), The Craft Reader (2010), Invention of the Craft (2013), and Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970 to 1990 (2011). He is also the co-founder and editor of the triannual Journal of Modern Craft.
