Hello all,

It is my pleasure to announce that Prof. Harriet Ritvo will be taking on the
duties of Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) for the HASTS program for next
year. Harriet has been actively involved in the program since its earliest
days and has advised a great number of successful Ph.D. students. Her
scholarship in human/animal relationships has been the core of a growing
dimension of the program in environmental history, and her past stints as
head of the History Faculty have given her a wealth of experience serving on
the HASTS steering committee. I could not be more pleased that Harriet will
bring that leadership and experience to the graduate program in this new
way.

Also, please join me in thanking David Kaiser for his two years' service as
DGS. David has been a tireless advisor to and advocate for the graduate
students, and has energetically convened his colleagues toward the
improvement of our pedagogy and our processes. Fortunately, as the new
director of STS, David will continue an active involvement in the graduate
program.

Thank you again to David, and welcome to Harriet.

d
