Harriet has been actively involved in the program since its earliest days and has advised a great number of successful Ph.D. students. Her scholarship in human/animal relationships has been the core of a growing dimension of the program in environmental history, and her past stints as head of the History Faculty have given her a wealth of experience serving on the HASTS steering committee. I could not be more pleased that Harriet will bring that leadership and experience to the graduate program in this new way.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Also, please join me in thanking David Kaiser for his two years’ service as DGS. David has been a tireless advisor to and advocate for the graduate students, and has energetically convened his colleagues toward the improvement of our pedagogy and our processes.
