Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre celebrates the
underappreciated holiday of Groundhog Day with a screening of --
appropriately enough – GROUNDHOG DAY and an introduction by noted science
historian and physicist Peter Galison on Mon., Feb. 2 at 7:00 p.m.

Director Harold Ramis’ off-beat modern comedy classic stars Bill Murray as
Phil Connors, a self-centered television weatherman assigned to cover the
groundhog's annual appearance in Punxsutawney, PA. It's his forth year
waiting on word from the rodent to determine the length of the remaining
winter, and Phil couldn't be more open about his disdain for the town, his
job and his co-workers. When he awakens on what should be the following day,
he inexplicably finds himself stuck in a time loop, dooming him to repeat
his most hated day of the year, over and over again, until he finally gets
things right.

This unusual comedy raises many questions related to the physics and
philosophy of time. Joining us before the film to speak about some of these
questions is Peter Galison. An author, film producer and MacArthur Award
winner, Dr. Galison is the Joseph Pellegrino University Professor of physics
and the history of science at Harvard University. Galison's research
explores both the philosophical and historical questions that arise when
examining the role of experiments in modern physics. His books include
Einstein's Clocks, Poincaré's Maps and Image and Logic.

With Science on Screen, the Coolidge presents a feature film or documentary
with a basis in science, paired with exciting introductions by notable
figures from the worlds of science and technology. This monthly series is
co-presented by The Museum of Science, Boston and New Scientist magazine.

Science on Screen programs are $7.75 for students and Museum of Science
members, or $9.75 general admission. Members of the Coolidge Corner Theatre
get in free. Tickets are available in advance at the box office, located at
290 Harvard Street in Brookline, or on-line at www.coolidge.org/showtimes.
