How to take Backup of Workflow templates

Hi Friends,
  Could you please tell me the best way to take a backup of the Workflow
templates. Most of the times the common workflows will be the same in many
clients, so if we can take a copy of the workflow and paste it in other
system it will save lot of re-working time. I have tried the Import-Export
XML option, but in some cases the tasks doesn't come properly. Please let
me know if you have any alternative solution.
