Just checking: method parameters: variable structure must exist as a part of a DB table?

Hi folks,

Just checking.. making a small method to return the result of a function.  Am I correct in stating that as a parameter value I can only use types which are used in a database table as you always have to give reference table & reference field.  (or object)
So a structure.. just used in a function interface can not be used as a parameter in a workflow method.
