Workflows hung in background task

Hi Sue,

I would indeed assume its RFC issue, but since you've checked that I would also look at ST22 and SM13 to see if there's something there.
In order to monitor such occasion, you can try reports SWPC and SWF_ADM_SUSPEND.
I can't tell for sure if it'll work but its worth trying :)
In addition, if your workflow eventually ends with error, try to see in SWPR its upper limit. It might have an endless loop that eventually exceed the max number of steps (defined in workflow general settings).

Good luck,

Thanks Eddie, Thanks Sue

Although those jobs were already scheduled, and running.  After I re-scheduled them in Dev it works fine now.

I think they may have been scheduled in a different client?

All the best

Hi Eddie

There are no resubmissions.

There is a requested start, but it should have been reached already.
Is there a job which needs to run to pick up requested starts, maybe thats not working??

Thanks
Sunni

Hi Sunni,

Did you check your Resubmission folder in SBWP? Is the work item there?

If not then you need to look at the technical log of the workflow. Can you see anything there?

Are you referring to the dialog work item or the parent work item?

Regards,
Eddie

Hi Eddie

Thanks for your reply.
There is not requested start deadline, and this is in a development system and I am the only user, and I've not received the work item.  It's still in 'Waiting status' in the workflow log.
Could there be any other reason.. Could it be a buffer that needs refreshing maybe, or something else?

Thanks
Sunni

Hi Sunni,

Please check the following:

[1] Has the work item a Requested Start deadline? If so, then it will not be in status Ready until the date is reached.

[2] Has the work item been out into the Resubmission folder in SBWP by the user?

Regards,
Eddie

Hi

I have a workflow step which is remaining in the 'Waiting' status, so it doesn't show in sbwp.  The workflow log shows the agent has been determined, and the agent receives work items from other steps in the workflow fine.

What else could possibly be the reason for this error?

Kindest Regards
Sunni

We are on ECC 6.0

In one of our workflows, a background task was started and just got hung up....it never finished.  In the log it has that the Background processing started with Object type 1 = tRFC Entries.  I had to go into the step and complete it manually for the workflow to move on.

It has happened a couple of times in the last few days (that I know of)....on different background tasks.  It is happening in workflows that have had no changes to them.

I've gone to Basis to see if there were any issues with the RFCs at the time that the tasks got hung up and nothing is showing up there.  They have looked at the system logs and see nothing.  When this has happened before, it has been something that has happened with the RFCs or the gateway has backed up or the system has gone down.

What can I look at to see what might be happening to the system that is making these background tasks hang up?  Also, is there a way that I can find all workflows that might be in the same state as the two that I have found?

Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: Workflow template saved as 'Local' Change request cant' change please help

Hi

I noticed in SE10 that the workflow template that I changed is automatically saved as a 'Local Change Request' in the workbench (and the task is labelled repair_.  I was able to release it though, so I'm a little confused.  Will this be able to be transported then?

I then went to the workflow builder to see if I made another change if it would be possible to save it as transportable workbench request; so I made a small change.  When I click on save it says transports of this type, local can only be used for this type.
Please clarify.

Kindest Regards
Sunni
