Background Workflow task hanging

Thank you for responding Ravi.

I don't see anything in SM58.

I have tried to recreate the issue in DEV and cannot. It looked like it might be a locking issue, but I have recreated the exact steps in the same order in the workflow in DEV and do not get a locking error.

It seems to only happen to the one user and happens once or twice a month.

I can find no errors in any log. I've looked at SM12 and SM58 and see nothing. The tRFC entry in the log says tRFC already executed and shows no error.

The log in SWWERRE says that it edited the Workflow entry, but that is all the information that I see. There are no temporary error messages anywhere.

I did go to SWUD and did the Workflow hanging option. It showed that the workflow having the problem had a block structure error. I've fixed that in DEV and will transport it up to see if that makes a difference.

Hi Sue

This may be an SM58 thing, can you see what that says when this task is "hanging"?
Also, you may have to ensure you read PA00041 efficiently?

Cheers

In case you were not aware, a team of SAP Mentors has been working to help
SAP re-work the meaning of, and content in, various SAP Certifications.
This can be a critical career development item for many of us. Some folks
(OK, me) did not *need* certification when it was available in our area of
expertise - and now it's not. Others have had Certification - and now want
more?

At any rate, you should visit the blog by the 'Certification 5' (Dennis
Howlett) on SAP Community Network to read up on the topic, as well as
filling out the survey. I just took the survey, and it was pretty quick and
painless. All you had to do was think a little, but I guarantee you will be
done within 5 minutes.

The most current blog on this topic can be found at:

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/20520

And the link to the survey is here:

http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22B2CY8SHJL

When we find a bug with an SAP product, we step up to let them know. This
is certainly just as pressing (if not more so) to do this for your own
professional development.

Sue

Hi Sue,

If it's just selecting then it shouldn't be locking anything.
Have a look at the Exceptions of the method, are there any marked as
temporary?

It's also strange that no warnings or errors are showing in the workflow log
- can you double check?
Temporary errors show up as warnings (yellow triangles).
