SAP work item attachments needs to be stored on DMS(IXOS)

Hi Pros,Is it possible to store the work item attachments(like word,pdf,..etc documents) on external DMS(IXOS) instead of SAP Database? Client dont want the to save the attachment data on SAP database. 
 
I did some research and found, It this can be done by doing some changes to content repository 'SOFFDB'. But not sure what changes we need to do .. I found fallowing post from 'Schmidinger, Heinz (Unaxis IT BZ)' on our group..
