David seems to have your deadline question well in hand, so let me speak to your other questions.

And no, we don't do points.  Our valued contributors do so out of the goodness of their hearts.  There is no incentive to give a partial answer or copy someone else's answer just for points either.   However, you can show your gratitude for answers by closing the loop - perhaps adding 'Solved' or 'Thanks!' to an email subject line so that it is easier for all concerned to determine when a particular issue has been resolved.
I heartily recommend that the community adopt this approach as a whole.

Also, in the interest of fair play, it's generally not nice to start sending private messages to individuals who take the time to answer your questions (I am not sure if this is what you've referred to below, but I am just clarifying a position I have heard from a number of people).  What can happen is that we get a great answer from someone, and want to follow up - but for some reason, we think it's better to start a dialog off the forum.  This expert will get frustrated, and feel abused, and not want to answer private questions because:
a)      it defeats the purpose of a public forum,
b)      it puts them in the awkward position of having to say 'Yes, I helped you once, but this is not appropriate'
c)      the experts' knowledge is also often their bread-and-butter - so we try to not take advantage of their generosity.

Mind you, I have just spoken in very general terms  - in hopes of getting the message out to all members consistently.

Dear David,

Thanks a lot for your inputs. In your eg you have specified requested end as +25 days and latest end as +30 days. I can't understand the difference between them. It seems both options are same. That is if the user does not process the workitem within the days specified deadline event will be triggered. Can you please tell me the difference between them. Similarly in case of requested start you have specified as +14 days and latest start as +20 days. I can understand requested start that after 14 days only workitem will appear in the inbox. Then what is the use of latest start.

Also as I am new to wug I would like to know in case my question gets answered is there any system of rewarding the wuggies similar to points system in SDN.

I would also like to know how and where to see the private message sent to me.

SAP workflow deadlines are designed as part of the human interaction.  As
such they are typically used to control when a work item is assigned to the
agent and how long the item remains assigned to the agent before the control
of the item returns to workflow.

SAP Deadline Types:

Example: Loan Contract processing, with 14 day cooling off period(Period in
which party to which loan is issued may cancel the contract without
penalties)

                    Loan Contract must be processed within 30 days from
contract being signed, or new contract must be issued and the process
restarted.

Requested Start

+ 14 days from workflow start

Result: workflow is not assigned to agent for processing until the deadline
is reached

Requested End "Deadline by which the processing of a work item should be
terminated."

+25 days from workflow start

Result: If the work item has not been completed by this date, the workflow
deadline triggered and control returns to workflow for processing of
deadline event.  Processing defined in workflow definition.  Can be used to
escalate processing or remind people that a work item is coming due for
completion.

Latest Start "Latest date or time for the recipients of a work item to have
started processing it."

+20 days from workflow start.

Result: If the work item has not been started by this date, the workflow
deadline is triggered and control returns to workflow for processing of
deadline event.

Latest End "Point in time for the latest end of processing of a work item."

+30 days from workflow start

Result: If the work item has not been completed by this date, the workflow
deadline is triggered and control returns to workflow for processing.

Hi again,

I've found out, that the Instance-handler interface is used for wait-steps or completion-events for work items only.

So I have programmed a generic static ON_EVENT-method that calls the instance ON_EVENT-methods.

Hello wuggies,

I'd like to link an event to a method call instead of a function module (creating a workflow instance or something else).

I have found out, that if you implemented the interface BI_EVENT_HANDLER_STATIC there's a method ON_EVENT coming up, basically offering the parameters of the receiver function module but as static method's importing paramater.

This is already somewhat workable.

However I also found the interface BI_EVENT_HANDLER that brings on instance ON_EVENT method with it, and the database table SWFDEVTYP can be set to an instance method: There's a field RECMETYP, which could be set to 'I' = Generic Instance Method.
However, I haven't found a possibility to maintain that field with transaction SWETYPV.

Has anyone of you used the event linkage to INSTANCE methods already?
