ABAP OO Workflow - bI_PERSISTENT

  I have started to use abap methods in workflow and have read all the
blogs by Jocelyn Dart.  I wondered if anyone could clarify the two
methods below and how they get called by workflow.  I am  little fuzzy
on the idea of the persistent object? 
 
BI_PERSISTENT~FIND_BY_LPOR
