Workflow leave request error

Hi Experts,

I have an issue with Leave request workflow. When i look at the lock, i found the following error msg:-

"Syntax error in expression &EMPLOYEE.PERSONNELAREA.ID& ; Step 0000000507 of WS90500061: Binding from workflow to work item aborted"

Can someone explain this error and give a solution.
