ECC6 binding options

In 4.6c.
Example from a method -> task -> WF Template.
You have Containers on tasks and Parms on methods and bindings set to
IMPORT "AND" EXPORT a container value.
If explicitly set the container like so,
swc_set_element container 'myValue' zValue.
The bindings work as expected. It will update your task, and WF
container values.

If you have the container as IMPORT "AND" EXPORT but DO NOT explicitly
swc_set_element container 'myValue' zValue.
It will not over write your task or WF Template container.
It will be the value that was passed in.
(Try it!)

Now, in ECC6, if you forget (or inherit bad code) to "EXPLICITLY" set
that same export value,
it will reset the value to initial. Not, the value you passed in like in
4.6c.
(Try it!)

So, what I am saying is, watch the bindings after conversion. In the new
ECC6, in bindings, you
have some more 'options' on how to handle this. Options are something
like Ignore if null, etc.

This pinched me! Had a real fun time hunting down this needle in a hay
stack!

Happy Upgrading,

FYI note, in versions greater than 4.6c, (at least in ECC6) the binding
options have changed.

For instance, if you are passing back empty container from task to WF
Template in 4.6c, it does not re-set your WF template.
In ECC6, it will! So review the options on binding for upgrade plans.
(It bit me on upgrade!)
In the bindings, you have options to leave it, ignore it, etc.

Just something to keep in mind for upgrading ...
Have fun!

Hi Florin,

Many thanks for the inputs. As you had mentioned it was a problem with
the binding.
The problem was with the Container variables. I had defined the
variables but did not activate the IMPORT and EXPORT parameters. So
eventhough the binding exists it did not work as expected.

Anyways thanks so much for your kind help. Appreciate that!!

Regards,
VJ

Hi,

you might be missing the dataflow from the workflow-container to the
task container to transfer the object-instance (material master). So
please verify (once again) your bindings from
- Event-->Workflow
- Workflow-->Activity
You can also check in the executed work item, if you see under
"Goto-->Technical Work item display"; "Extras-->Container", if you can
find you material master's ID there. If not, there's somewhere a binding
missing.

Best regards,
   Florin
