SAP-WUG - to SDN or not to SDN, that is the question

Ok folks,

Paul - if you "Watch this topic" or "Watch this forum" SDN is also delivered to your door and it's easy enough to direct it to an Outlook folder for review when I have time just as I've always done with WUG.

Appreciate the issues with SDN but as one who has been on this forum since very early days I would like to remind everyone that we too have had many many many irritating beginner questions and vague "send me everything you've got on workflow" queries. For any forum the way to stop this traffic is via the diligence of the moderator and the forum community in educating fellow respondents on the quality expected. Sue has always been a fantastic moderator of course.

I know SDN is comparatively recent, but perhaps Sue you could discuss some of these issues with the SDN Business Process Management forum moderator. I'm sure there will at some point be a time when it is not practical for you to continue with the WUG forum... even if that's not today as yet.

Points - or the lack thereof - despite their foibles are a way to reward appropriate and also to punish inappropriate forum behaviour.

I also agree that the rules of engagement and frequently asked questions do not seem to be enough to stop the nonsensical stuff. Perhaps someone would like to send some suggestions for better approaches - e.g. perhaps we could have a beginner/intermediate/expert rating on the forum member or forum topic so we could at least avoid the trivial gunk when searching? Or even a "points junkie" yellow/red card that could be awarded to disuade bad points behaviour.

What do you think folks? I'm happy to pass on any suggestions to SDN or to go through Sue (assuming Sue has more direct contacts with the SDN moderators) - it's in all our interests that SDN also be a useful forum if only because it extends so much wider than just workflow.

Regards,
Jocelyn

Say it ain't so!

Good things about WUG
- delivered to your door; you can find out new stuff without looking for it
- knowledgeable and helpful folk (the best in the world!)
- fast, easy, convenient
- incredibly valuable resource in emergencies

Bad things about SDN
- you have to make a conscious effort to search for a topic
- full of 'points monkeys' who post F1 help text and then beg for points
- slow website, slow search engine, incomplete results, unanswered
questions.

SAP are great at ERP software, but for some inexplicable reason their
websites are an embarrassment.

cheers
Paul

I would hope that any forum, either SDN or this one, would be OK for
"beginners". I have posted questions with this group as well as the SDN
forum. Either avenue works for me. With SDN, more users are going away
from the ASUG discussion forums. I found SDN helpful as long as the person
giving
advice did not talk down or respond with links to other discussions. While
there may be many threads for the same topic, I found it easier to just
post my question instead of trying to search through hundreds of postings.

Just my two cents.

I agree too. It is difficult to find anything useful on SDN.
Most people there sound like beginners with tons of threads for the same
topic.
Also, this way we get to see new things which may not be needed right away.

Agree with all comments. The WUG is more direct and a true specific
workflow forum. With no points "incentive" for useless answers like on SDN.

Sherie, Mike, All,

I hear you loud and clear. If others feel the same way, please reply and
say WHY. I don't mind keeping this list going as long as I can; as a
matter of fact, I enjoy it quite a bit. But this list has no 'official'
status with SAP, and it is just by grace of good luck that we have some
excellent
SAP folks (you know who you are) on it.

If you feel that this list should continue, again, please state why...
why you like it, why other sources don't meet your needs, etc.

That, along with your $20 contribution, will keep SAP-WUG up and running.

Kidding (about the $20) for those of you who don't know me, Sue
