SWEQSRV hanging, events stuck "In Process"

Gavin,
Rather than reduce the number of events raised at one time, it might be better to put a bit more of a gap between each block of events.

Generally SAP recommends at least 3 minutes between individual runs of repeating batch jobs.

Just gives the system a chance to sort out all the peripheral stuff around locking, job queues, etc. It could be the job is getting deadlocked.

After all if you are raising 12000 events, then spreading it out over half an hour gives everyone else using the system a chance to get there work donw.
Regards,
Jocelyn.

Subject: SWEQSRV hanging, events stuck "In Process"

Hi everyone,

In our performance test (of a real scenario) we've noticed a problem
with the event queue job. Around 12,000 events are raised and go into
the queue. The job is set to process 200 at a time, each minute. The
app server seems able to handle this quite happily and finishes
processing the batch of 200 after about 20 seconds. Then, next minute,
another 200 events are processed. We see the system use a load of
background processes to deliver the events and then these processes
free up again. Fine.

After a few cycles of reading the queue and processing events the job
hangs. SWEQADM says that 200 events are in process (and their status
is indeed "in process") but from SM66/SM50 we can see that they are
not actually being processed. There is just one (dialog) process
active which has status On Hold with reason RFC. This process stays On
Hold until we cancel the job. No short dumps and the RFC queues are
also empty. We tried reducing the number of events processed per
minute but the job still hangs.

We're on WAS 700, level 9.

I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Regards,
Gavin
