WS14500015 (item based approvals) in an SRM5 system

Hi,

I have a question regarding WS14500015 (item based approvals) running in a SRM5 system. I’ve read configuration note 731637 but I’m not clear regarding a few items.
 
What’s not clear to me is can an approval object (a group of shopping cart items) be exempt from the approval process while another approval object is not? In my case, based on the account assignment, some items may be exempt from the approval process while others will be subjected to n-step dollar value approval process, while some may only have one approval step.

The note didn’t give me the impression that you can setup approval objects that don’t require approval or if you can, how would you do it?
