send emails to portal

Hi,

Appreciate the inputs a lot.
In the current design, the users I'm talking about are external customers,
and they do not have an SAP ID. Every customer might have a different email
address (different email server). Even if I decide to send emails to their
email address, should I not have their email servers SMTP compatible with
SAP. I am currently planning to retrieve the customer's email address
from Customer Master and send an email. I would be writing an RFC for that.
However,
I would like to know about the SMTP compatibility with SAP of various email
servers. Do we have to externally configure that, or does SAP allow emails
to be sent to external emails as such.

Thanks a lot,
Vijay
