Attach File to Workflow

Hello fellows,

i know how to attach an instance of an object to a workflow,
but i don't know how to attach a DOC-file or XLS-file that is stored on my
frontend.
I tried to use f.m. SO_DOCUMENT_INSERT_API1 with object type 'EXT' but i
didn't work!
Does anybody know how to solve that?
