Outlook Integration methods without MAPI in 4.6C+ (Regular SA P without Portals or Web functionality)

Extended email notifications RSWUWFML2 is the recommended replacement for SAPMAPI.
This is available now as Alan has previously advised in the SAP-WUG.  Suggest you check
the archive for the relevant OSS notes and web log on the SAP Developer's Network.

Hi All,
 
I am trying to verify my research into Outlook integration methods with SAP Workflow without MAPI.  Since it appears SAP will stop supporting MAPI beyond a certain version of Outlook, I was exploring other methods to integrate with SAP Workflow.  The Outlook integration methods I am aware of:
 
SAP Exchange Connector
SAP Forms with XML
 
Is this correct or are there other communication technologies I am not aware of?
 
Are both these technologies asynchronous or is there a way to make them synchronous?
