Passing attachments from a workflow to a subworkflow

Strange....   I thought attachements were transferred automatically from=20
main WF to subflow...
At least if the attachment existed on the moment the subflow=20
started........

(by the way .. I think there are functions to manually bind a certain=20
attachement to a certain workitem id......  SWL_WI_NOTE_CREATE?)

Hi everyone,
 
I am looking for a way to pass attachments, which have been created or
imported by users, from a fairly complex staffing workflow to some other
subworkflows.
 
My problem is, when within the subworkflows, which have been generated by
the system, the attachments are lost.  How do we bind between the two?
 
We are on 4.6, soon going to 4.7.  Any input would be appreciated.
