It wouldn't surprise me if you got the request exactly as you wrote it.=
 
Neither would it surprise me if what they really want is one inbox show=
ing
both e-mail messages and work items. Trying to show that they have a gr=
asp
(which they probably don't) they instead specify that they want to see =
the
e-mail messages as work items. Thus they score one point on their
"buzz-word usage" scorecards.

It is possible to have an inbox showing e-mails and workitems mixed
together, as e.g. the work item text and the e-mail subject contain the=
 
=ABsame=BB information. However, work item display and e-mail preview a=
re two
different cups of tea, so once you get past the "message list" things g=
et a
bit more advanced. A fancy inbox viewer with plugins for different type=
s of
previews would do the trick, just like a file browser can display thumb=
nail
previews of PDF-files (Linux with e.g. KDE, not in stupid Windows), JPE=
Gs
and other file types by using plugins to handle different types.

No.  This is not possible.
 
A workitem is more than a mail.
 
Mails and work items are in separate inbox lists.
 
Workitems cannot be displayed as mails - what actually happens is that =
a
mail is built
based on the texts in the work item - the work item itself still exists=
 in
the workflow inbox.
 
Why do you need this?  What are you trying to do? We may be able to sug=
gest
alternatives.
