Restarting a completed work item(task)

No there is not.  The workflow is finished.
 
Start the code directly if necessary - e.g. you could use txn SWUS to create and execute a new
instance of the background task.
 
And of course fix your workflow - a little error handling so workflow actually knows that the background task has failed can stop a lot of grief afterwards.

A workflow has a task that is completed, however, some
of the updates do not occur because the user that
executed the task does not have authorizations.
 
Is there a way to restart the task so that the
workflow can continue?
 
Programmatically, I believe this should be possible.
I just want to see if anyone has done it before I
invest some time to do it.
