Object attributes in binding

Hi workflow experts -
 
In 4.7 (Enterprise) you have the ability to directly assign an object's =
attribute to another type of structure in a binding - for example, you =
can pass the material number of the material business object into a =
header data structure.  Is that possible in 4.6C?  Looking at the =
binding screen, it appears you can bind either the entire object or =
nothing at all...
 
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks so much!
