info message for "unread" workitem during logon

Hello WFguru's,
Is there another possibility to inform users about 'Unread' work items? I
know that we could use the express (prio 1) messages. But i think it is
quite annoying to get these express documents poping up each time. Better
solution would be that WF gives only after logging on to SAP a
notification like: There are unread workitems in your inbox........
I think SAP only provides this functionality for SAP MAIL and not for Work
items....right?
