Container Operation not working in Test system

Hello All,
we are on CRM 3.0. A new Test System is in action for about a few weeks. Some
limited test of workflow were performed on this new system. One strange
problem, a simple Container Operation step does not get proper value assigned.

Say I have an object OBJX with an attribute ZZZ. Looked in the container the
object does have value for ZZZ. Container operation is simply asign &OBJX.ZZZ&
to workflow container element say YYY.

Looked in the detail, the Container Operation step, it showes:

      Arithmetic operation 'YYY =
      &OBJX.ZZZ&  ' executed. Result: ''

Any help is deeply appriciated...

By the way, the same workflow works fine in the development system.
