Abby, Heinz,

if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.=20

Although you can implement this via WF (as you can use your hammer to =
water
the flowers), the Reporting Agent is definitely the better way.

1. It already uses the tools for report & exception definitions that =
the
users are already familiar with=20

2. Checking for exceptions needs to be done periodically (e.g. once a =
day).
Again, that's a given with the Reporting Agent scheduling its jobs =
(perhaps
depending on whether the new loads were successful...). That's one of =
the
things you can build with WF -- but why bother if it's already there?

3. When sending the notifications, you still need to send a link to a
PARTICULAR exception report. There's a number of data =
warehousing-specific
issues here (report build time etc, URI persistence etc). These are =
again
handled automatically by the Reporting Agent -- so why reinvent it?

4. It is standard, used and tested on many installations. Bet you'd =
have to
test a LOT to achieve the same degree of reliability. And you have OSS
support if something goes wrong.

Sorry to be such a pain in the neck, but I hope the circumstances =
justify
it.

Kind regards,

Tomasz
(who is a certified BW consultant as well...)

Hello Abby,

It is possible to use WF in BW.

A similar scenario you described I have implemented in our BW some =
weeks ago
(control data-load).

BADi's are only an other way of User-Exits based on ABAP-Objects.

Regards=20

Heinz

Betreff: Using workflow in BW

Hi all -=20

My client is asking about the possibility of running workflow in BW. =
One of
the ways we're interested in using this is triggering a workflow to =
route
the report to a user when an exception occurs in BW.

While I've been looking at BW, it appears that you can use the data =
from the
alert raised from an exception in a report by exporting the data using =
a
BAdI. However, I'm not sure what this BAdI is supposed to do - raise =
an
event to trigger the workflow? I know very little about BAdIs, so this =
has
been very confusing to me.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Abby :)
