Converting a .pcl (out of smart form) file into an xcel or AS CII.

Thad,

You may be able to handle the special format for these VIP customers in the
Smart Form. There is a provision for conditional output for each element.
If there is data which identifies when the extra information is required,
you could handle it directly in the form.

Also, you might want to check to see if the requirement for an electronic
copy is really for an Excel format, or because that's what they are familiar
with. Providing a .PDF format may satisfy the electronic copy requirement,
and is easy to do from Smart Forms.

Regards,
John

Tomasz,

Your are bringing up interesting points. Since I got caught in the
technical aspects of this request (for what I am responsible), I have not
been looking at it from the perspective of its validity or legality. I
will definitely bring that issue up with our business/functional experts.

As for the reasons behind the request - some of our VIP customers require
either additional field on the invoice (e.g. cost center) or want an
electronic copy in xcel format rather than a paper.

Your other point is well taken as well - the requested approach to handle
the special invoices may be quite difficult to realize. However, we do need
to face those special invoicing cases somehow. We are in the process of
implementing the billing in r/3. 4.6c .

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thad

...so that the invoice & tax amount can be changed manually without leaving
trace in the accounting system?

Thad, operations like these /ie. postprocessing system output before
actually printing it/ are not just ugly from the design perspective. They're
also impossible to trace afterwards and may become a maintenance horror. In
the case of invoices they may be just illegal.

Please reconsider other options.

Kind regards,
Tomasz

Subject: Converting a .pcl (out of smart form) file into an xcel or ASCII.

Hi All:

Perhaps someone has dealt with this issue: I need to convert a .pcl (out of
smart form) file into an xcel or ASCII.

For invoices that require a special handling, I need to pick up .pcl file
(an electronic representation of a smart form before printing it) and send
it to an agent in a format that allow manual adjustment. For that the pcl
file need to be converted to (ideally) xcel or ASCII format.

Your advice, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Thad
