SAP Exchange Connector & SAP MAPI

SXC (SAP Exchange Connector) is a server side concept.
It connects your exchange server to SAP Office.

The mapi (mail API) is a client (outlook) to SAP connection.

The run independently. You can use both together(why?). Or just one or the other.

If a small number of powerusers will be using mapi, then mapi is fine.
Once a large number if inboxes are involved, SXC is the better way to go.

The mapi connection uses a connection to the sap server so it can be hard on resources if too many uses are connected.

What is too many.... People talk about 200.
I think that once you get above 50 power users, you have a genuine
mail integration business problem and should stop playing with client
tools (MAPI) and move onto server related approaches.

The Help on the Docu CD isnt bad.
See also the Server product cds that come the install kit.
THE SXC is on that.
The latest version of both MAPI and SXC can also be downloaded.

Subject: SAP Exchange Connector & SAP MAPI

Hi all -

We are talking about a limited implementation of the SAP MAPI at my client, for a small number of users, and while I have configured the MAPI before, I keep reading about the SAP Exchange Connector on OSS. I am not sure if there is a piece on the Exchange server required for MAPI usage that I am missing. Is the Exchange connector required on the server if the MAPI is to be used?

Another question I have - how do people feel regarding the impact the MAPI has on Outlook performance? I have heard several different things, but am looking for some good advice on whether to use the MAPI/not.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks so much!
Abby :)
