Hi Fred,
Watch your WF-BATCH's lock entries (SM12) during processing. An obvious answer I can think of is that two invoices relate to the same PO. Thus both workflows would be trying to update it at the same time.
Change this to a temporary error and let WF retry the step and you should be OK.
