I too would be very interested in anyone's contribution, I have a customer
who is considering two approaches, either invoice approval using SAP
workflow or using a 3rd party product for called Contempus. I don't know
the outcome yet. Has anyone any knowledge of this product and how it
integrates with SAP?

Dear workflows,
 
There are two options to develop the approval procedure for SAP objects
like purchase requisition, sales order, and so on.
One is using SAP Business Workflow and the other is using groupware with
rfc interface.
 
If you have some experience about that, I'll like to share it.
