Archiving work items

Hi,
 
Are there specific requirements (actions to take/consider) for archiving
work items?
 
Because we went live a few months ago we have no experience with
archiving (tx SARA). We have a need for archiving because many workflow
instances have been started that shouldn't have been started. After
logically deleting we want to archive these instances.
